Description
Program Description (Family Medicine):
The family
medicine residency program is the only program at the
hospital. This allows all aspects of the hospital to be
utilized to train family physicians to practice high
quality, cost-effective, and caring family medicine for the
future. We prepare family physicians so they can practice
anywhere. A diversified rotation schedule consisting of all
of the required core curriculum components has been created
for a 36 month residency program. A wide variety of
clinical electives are available for our residents and a
required rural rotation is also included in our third-year
curriculum.
A commitment
to education over service is integrated into all areas of
the educational program. Rotations and supervision of
residents is organized for progressive advancement and
increasing responsibility and independence throughout their
training. Continuity of care is of utmost importance and is
emphasized in our family practice center as well as
inpatient setting. Osteopathic principles and practices are
utilized by all trainees and osteopathic
faculty.
Our faculty
has a strong commitment to faculty development, community
outreach, scholarly activity, and research and has
established a process of self-study and internal review to
ensure the program is meeting the educational goals and
objectives and responding to the needs of the residents as
well as the community to provide an excellent graduate
medical education environment.
