The following was prepared to assist those individuals who play a part in teaching osteopathic medical education, provide faculty development for those who do, and/or participate in research and/or scholarly activity in member institutions of the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network. Specifically, it is the recommended procedure for those individuals who wish to be considered for FACULTY APPOINTMENT to BOTH the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine AND the faculty of the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network. Please refer to a copy of NEOMEN Policy 3.1.5, "Appointment of Clinical Track Faculty", which was developed and approved by the Education Committee on April 5, 2001, and approved by the NEOMEN Board of Governors on May 3, 2001. It is the definitive statement that describes the required levels of participation, the academic rank, and the required review process for your application for appointment. The following also contains sample letters and documents necessary to constitute a complete application. It is UNECOM policy that all applications must be complete before the review is started. Candidates requesting a designation or a change in designation in both UNECOM and NEOMEN Faculty should submit a request (EXAMPLE 1) in writing along with the following materials: A current curriculum vita. All this material should be sent in one package to: Boyd R. Buser, D.O. Should you wish to track your application's progress, please provide a copy of your cover letter only (Example 1) to the Executive Director of NEOMEN-OPTI at the same address. Once the application is received, it is sent to the Department Chairs of the COM for review and comment. Once reviewed by the COM Department Chairs, it is submitted to the DEAN of COM with a recommendation. The Dean promptly reviews the application and the recommendation and appoints you to the UNECOM Faculty with an academic rank and departmental assignment. The appointment to the NEOMEN Faculty follows immediately by a vote of the Board of Governors. Appointments are reviewed every two years. Certificates of Appointment are provided to every dual faculty appointee by the NEOMEN staff. |
